Quote of the day

Jake just got a microscope yesterday. So, this morning he says, "mom I need a chicken embryo and some dinosaur DNA. I am sure we can find them on the internet".

Patience

I have to say patience is something that I have. So, when Jake said he was going to be a farmer when he grows up and he is not going to college. I just keep my mouth shut and figured I would wait it out. He will eventually change his mind (so I hoped). When he decided he wanted to grow his hair out long. I said ok, but you will have to take care of it everyday. Again knowing he would eventually get tired of it.
So, 2 weeks ago Jake says to me while I am cutting Matt's hair, "I'll take a hair cut too". Yipee! I actually thought he would last longer, but I was thrilled and happily buzzed his hair off. Then the greatest thing happened this week. He was watching a documentary on scientist possibly being able to attach dinosaur DNA to an emu or chicken embryo and make an "emuasouras". When it was over he announced "I have changed my mind, I am not going to be a farmer. I am going to be a scientist, so I can make a dinosaur". Yes, yes, yes. Nobody tell him it is unrealistic that he will ever make a dinosaur, until he is done with college please!

The jokester strikes again

I was looking through Jake's tests from the week before and he got a 27% on his spelling sentences. After their spelling test, they have to write three sentences using spelling words. He usually does well with this (95-100%). So, I was looking at the sentences. (Jake had just gotten a joke book the week before and had been reading everyday). They were all attempts at jokes. Of course he doesn't make up very good jokes, so to his teacher these sentence looked like non-sense. She even put a question mark next to them. So, I asked Jake, were you trying to write jokes, he said "well, yeah" and laughed because he thought they were pretty funny. Then Matt says, "that is really good Jake that shows creativity". Which yes it does, but you can't encourage an 8 year old boy to write jokes for a serious test. I wrote his teacher a note, she emailed me back and said, oh now they make sense. She said, I read them and thought maybe he was sick or distracted by something. I mean what kid attempts to write jokes for a test, mine does!

George Washington

In 2nd grade they had to choose a famous person, read their biography and prepare a poster and short presentation. Jake chose George Washington, because they have the same birthday, Feb 22nd. I found this wig at a costume shop, he hated it, but I thought he looked adorable!

Jake's 8th Birthday

Jake had his 8th Birthday party at Peter Piper Pizza this year. He of course wanted a SpongeBob cake. His best friend Malick's birthday is only 2 days before Jake's, so we had just been to Malick's birthday party the night before at Chuck E Cheese. He and his best friend Malick are so much a like, it is no wonder their birthdays are only 2 days apart. Jake was very hyped up and excited for his birthday this year, which I thinks was some carry over from the night before. As you can see by the bottom picture, the cold hard cash he got from mema and papa was his favorite present. He is growing up already. I didn't think they just wanted cash until they were teenagers. Jake had saved his Christmas and Birthday money (mom and dad helped him a little) and bought himself his own "mini" laptop. He loves it and thinks he is big stuff now. Matt set it up so he can only go to a couple of protected sites. But his new favorite thing to say is "I'll just google it". Cracks us up!

Bath or Shower

Just another peculiar thing about Jake. For a few years now he has been taking either baths or showers, we let him choose each night. However, they always go in cycles of about eight to ten weeks. He will only get baths or only get showers for this period of time. He is incapable of switching back and forth. He is used to doing both and likes both, but he doesn't like change at all. He is a creature of habit, but every few months for some reason he will just switch. He is a peculiar boy.

I have a dream....

I am way behind on Jake's blog, but I had to post this before I forgot. I was looking through Jake's school work today and found where they were learning about Martin Luther King Jr. this week. They had to write there own I have a dream speech. They had to make it all up themselves and write about something they wanted to change. This is Jake's speech as he wrote it, minus all the spelling mistakes.

I have a dream that people will stop killing other animals like tigers and cheetahs. Another reason of these animals is that people keep on cutting down trees for paper, that is why we have recycling. So stop shooting animals and stop cutting down trees and then the world will be a better place for all. That also includes animals. Then maybe if people follow this speech and the laws tigers and cheetahs and all other kind of rare animal and maybe just maybe the world would be a better place for all life.
