New addition to the family

Well, Matt and Jake got their dog finally. His name is Chilly. We adopted him from Boxer Luv Rescue today. He is around 2 years old and has slightly crooked face. He has callused areas on both sides of his legs, where they believe he was made to lay in kennel that was to small. He is a sweetheart, loves people and kids. He especially likes males, which is good since it is their dog. Here is a picture of him sleeping on the couch while Jake watches TV and of course the sad, please adopt me face that got us. To see him in the pool go to the pool blog.

My son the Character
At Jacob's school they do not do the typical student of the month program. Instead they give student of character awards. The school is big on teaching the children not just academics but moral character too. They have "6 pillars of strength" that they emphasize. They are caring, fairness, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness and citizenship. Well both last year and this year Jake has received an award of Student of Character the very first month of school. The award says he has demonstrated strength of character with action. Nice to see my character (which I often call him) also has great personal character.

Caught him red handed
Yesterday Jake saw me on the computer and asked what I was typing. I said I was doing my homework. He was very fascinated by the fact that I could do homework on the computer and asked lots of questions. I explained that I had to do all my work online because my instructor was in Mississippi. Jake asked if she spoke English. I reminded him Mississippi was in the U.S. He said "Oh yeah, I know about Mississippi, it has the Mississippi river, which is the biggest river." I said "Yes, your right it is the biggest river in the U.S., did you just learn that in school?" His mouth just hung open he said "you mean I was right, that was the first time I've ever made up something that was actually right."
Jake makes statements of "fact" all the time that are incorrect. I have accused him many times of just making it up and he always denies it. I finally have proof, right from his mouth. Of course, by next week he'll deny he ever said that.

My son, the thinker
If you know Jake you know he is quite the thinker and analyzer. I'll give you 2 example from this week.
He was eating dinner and 2 bites into it he said "mom I don't really care for this, can you make me something else?" After saying no and several minutes of him arguing and whining over it, I gave him the starving children in Africa speech (if your a mom you know this speech). He sat there quite for a few seconds and said very seriously "well, maybe their parents just need to get jobs to make money to buy them some food, then they wouldn't be starving."
We were at Cabela's today and he was looking at all the real stuffed wild animals. After looking at the mountain lion with his ferocious teeth he said "mom I'm scared, because those animals are real and they could come back to life." I said "no Jake they are dead and once things are dead they cannot come back to life." Without even blinking an eye he adamantly said "That's not true Jesus rose from the dead, that means he came back to life."

Sweet and Sad
Last week I was realized we had never told Jake that I was going back to school. So, while he was eating his snack after school I told him. He was confused since he knows I teach school and thought that was what I was talking about. When I explained that I was going back to college and what it meant was that I was going to be very busy doing homework, so dad was going to do most of his homework with him this year. He just had this blank look on his face and burst into tears. I was shocked by his reaction until he said sobbing "how long are you going to be gone for?" The poor guy thought I was leaving to go away to college. I immediately sat and cuddled with him until he was reassured I wasn't going anywhere. His reaction brought tears to my eyes.
